Media, Culture, and Modernization in China

China is polarising: On the one hand it is the world’s fastest growing economy, the future trading centre of the world with an impressive annual growth; on the other hand China is responsible for the depletion of world ressources and confronted with severe risks and social problems with a global dimension.
At the end of the 1970s the process of modernisation took off and brought China enormous changes in its economy, society, and cultural landscape. This issue of „Medien Journal“ deals with these developments; contributions from renowned experts give insights into this topic from various perspectives.
